"Director's Statement"
"This film draws inspiration from my early adolescence. I grew up in a small town, where I realized I was different from most of the other kids. This realization prompted me to delve into various topics on the internet. During that time, I became captivated by subjects like ballroom dancing and drag queens, which were entirely new to me. They filled me with excitement, leading me to create a dream for myself. However, even in that dream, I could only muster the courage to be an observer.Being queer, I found myself grappling with insurmountable challenges. When my environment refused to accept who I was, I felt compelled to hide my true self, locking away my secret. I made a conscious effort to keep the hardships of real life separate from my dreams. To some extent, I became my own mentor, finding solace and healing within myself. This transformation gave rise to a stronger version of myself, the Queen.
The film is divided into three parts. The first two draw inspiration from Greek mythology. If you look closely, you might discover the connections between them. The final part is named after Möbius Strips, symbolizing Queer's future, trapped in his predicament.
In China, there is incomplete data on nearly 70 million homosexuals, with nearly 70% residing in underdeveloped areas. Due to prevailing backward attitudes and stereotypes, most sexual minorities in small towns conceal their true sexuality and even pretend to be heterosexual. With little support from their parents, many teenagers are left to navigate this journey alone."
